Cattron, a global control solution leader in radio remote control, engine and generator control panels, and cloud-based monitoring solutions, proudly announces the launch of its XBMCU Multi-Interface Machine Control Unit. This innovative unit represents a significant advancement in industrial automation technology, offering seamless integration into PLC systems through multiple serial protocols and expanding Cattron’s robust industrial product portfolio.

The XBMCU is a compact, multi-interface receiver and machine control unit engineered for demanding industrial environments, including mobile machines, industrial automation, robotics and rail applications. It is fully compatible with Cattron’s Safe-D-Stop wireless emergency stop, all CattronControl radio remote transmitters and the latest generation of Remtron wireless devices.

“The XBMCU broadens our capability to support applications in the industrial automation market with industry-leading, intelligent control solutions,” said Brian Fette, Vice President of Product Management and Engineering at Cattron. “This compact multi-interface MCU and safety controller brings unprecedented ease, reliability, and integration flexibility to machine control applications.”

Revolutionizing Machine-to-Machine Communication

The XBMCU delivers exceptional machine-to-machine functionality with bi-directional communication and high data throughput. It features dual CANbus interfaces supporting J1939, CAN FD, CANopen and CANopen Safety protocols. Additionally, the unit includes lab-certified PROFINET communications with Class C Conformance for reliable, real-time industrial data exchange.

For North American users, the XBMCU will soon support Ethernet IP protocol, and future updates will include CIP safety capabilities – providing a comprehensive, scalable solution for systems integrators seeking to streamline deployments and reduce the need for multiple vendor components.

Built for Harsh Industrial Environments

Designed for rugged performance, the XBMCU is housed in an IP66-rated aluminum enclosure that withstands harsh operating conditions. It includes a wide 9–36 VDC supply range, eight digital inputs that support Category 3 PL-d configurations, and six 3A digital outputs for advanced safety and control.

Enhanced Safety and Ease of Configuration

To meet the highest safety standards, the XBMCU includes a black channel wireless interface and supports PROFIsafe (currently under certification) for secure PROFINET network communications. The unit supports IEC 61131 programming via the CattronLink programming tool, enabling configuration via the CattronLink app or over wireless or ethernet connections without complex setup procedures.

Ideal for a Wide Range of Applications

The XBMCU is suitable for various global industrial applications, including:

  • Industrial automation systems and robotics
  • Autonomous guided vehicles
  • Logistics control and monitoring
  • Industrial manufacturing equipment
  • Palletizing and packaging equipment
  • Decentralized control systems

“The XBMCU transforms the traditional HMI-based control paradigm into wireless freedom, substantially improving efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness,” said Rebecca Weber, Product Manager for Cattron’s Industrial Automation segment. “Machine builders and controls engineers can now avoid the common headaches of IT network integration while achieving faster maintenance response and enhanced operational flexibility.”
