Innovative Leachate and Water Tank Monitoring for Landfill Operations

TLA Enterprises, Inc.

TLA Enterprises, Inc. is a landfill service provider in the Southwestern United States. They provide installation, construction, maintenance, and repair services for commercial, hazardous and municipal solid waste landfills. They also offer leachate and water tank monitoring solutions to prevent environmental contamination.

Water Tank Monitoring

For landfills requiring a simple solution to monitor leachate water tank levels, they use a BWI Eagle control system with a 900 MHz frequency band. The system utilizes an input from the float switch or level transducer in the storage tank that is wired into a transmitter. While the input is closed, the transmitter sends a continuous signal to energize a relay in a receiver at the pump to keep it operating. When the tank level rises, the input opens, which triggers an “off” command to stop the pump, thus preventing tank overflow. The system is failsafe by default because if the receiver loses the signal from the transmitter for any reason, the receiver’s relay will automatically de-energize to disengage the pump.

A Comprehensive Solution for Remote Monitoring and Control

For landfills looking for more automation or reporting capabilities, the BWI Eagle system can integrate with the Messenger W or Aquavx™ Pro or ProPlus devices. The Messenger W or Aquavx SCADA monitoring and control devices utilize 4G cellular communications to report to RemoteIQ™ Water for remote pump control. The cloud-based platform also provides data visualization, alarm notifications, trending and reporting.
