Introducing L-Stop

March 20, 2024

Cattron is expanding its safety systems portfolio with the introduction of L-Stop, a locomotive stop system that enables yard workers to immediately stop the locomotive with the push of a button, drastically reducing the risk of an accident by putting control in the palm of the worker’s hand. The L-Stop offers an operating range of up to a one-mile line-of-sight, but extended ranges are possible with repeaters. With an always-on focus on safety, L-Stop continuously monitors the signal for loss of communication or power, broken wires or failed hardware and triggers an immediate and safe stop of the locomotive if any of those conditions are detected.

Features of the new L-Stop system include:

  • Two-way closed-loop communications
  • Continuous monitoring for signal loss
  • Operating range up to one-mile line-of-sight
  • Pair with up to three handheld transmitters
  • Power and pneumatics can be locked after being enabled
  • Operates independently from existing locomotive remote control systems
  • Optional horn and bell signal

“This is a top-notch wireless control solution that enhances safety in the railyard, putting safety and control in the worker’s hand,” says Brian Fette, Vice President of Product Management. “The L-Stop builds on Cattron’s extensive legacy of wireless locomotive control solutions.”

The L-Stop is an exciting addition to Cattron’s safety systems portfolio of wireless machine and emergency stop solutions, allowing railyards to equip yard workers with a personal safety device and improve their safety.
